Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival

A proposal for a permanent home for the Berwick Film Festival on a the site of the demolished Playhouse behind the old town walls.

Conceived as a 'lightbox' constructed in polycarbonate, the design imagines the building as an enclosed public square, a void in the urban grain that contrasts to the solid stone of the surrounding buildings - its transparency marking it as a gathering point in the city.

Rising above the existing roofscape, the building offers a new landmark when viewed from the train arriving in Berwick, or across the river Tweed.
